As your student moves into Middle School, all of sudden you start hearing about Service Points and opportunities to earn them… But what are Service Points? Why do Middle School students need to earn Service Points? And how does this involve HVPTO?

HBCSD and Hermosa Valley School require all middle school students, grades 6-8, are to earn School Service Points. The purpose of the school service program is to provide opportunities within the school to impress upon our students the importance of giving back to others, thinking about others, serving others, and helping to make a greater whole at Hermosa Valley School. The District feels that helping others provides a sense of accomplishment in students and a feeling of belonging in their school and community.

Service points are earned by students who assist a member of the faculty or staff during school hours or while at school, and can also be earned by volunteering at certain HVPTO or HBEF events. For each 15 minutes of service that a student provides, he or she will be awarded 1 service point. For various activities through the school year, students will need to have earned a minimum number of service points to participate.

Service points are tracked through the PBIS app.  Students have access through their school accounts.  Parents can access/view through the PBISR Family app on iPhones/Android – the school will send home instructions on how to access your student’s account.

With the permission of the District, HVPTO offers Middle School students the opportunity to earn School Service Points by volunteering at several of our events through the school year including Middle School Registration, Parking Lot Fundraisers, Back to School Picnic, and the Halloween Carnival. We appreciate all the time that our hardworking middle schoolers put into helping HVPTO run successful, memorable and fun events!

When you volunteer for an HVPTO (or HBEF) event, HVPTO sends a log of all volunteers and their hours to the Valley Office.  The Valley office staff enter those points into the PBIS app.  HVPTO cannot enter points directly into the system, but we can confirm what we have shared with the school.  Teachers and other Valley staff enter points that students earn volunteering for them directly.

Please visit Valley’s Service Points website for more information.

Attention Parents of Current 6th Graders / any incoming 7th Graders:

In order for your child to register for 7th grade, the HVS Health Office must have proof of the following immunizations on file:

  • Two (2) doses of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
  • Two (2) doses of Varicella (unless they’ve had chickenpox and have documentation)
  • One (1) dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap)

In accordance to state law, personal waivers for any of the immunizations are no longer valid.

Most likely your student has received ALL of these vaccinations, but the HVS Health Office might not have a current list on file. So as your child goes in for their yearly check-ups, ask for a current list of their immunizations, get whatever they’re missing, and bring your updated proof of vacination into the office.

Please submit the proof of immunization as soon as possible to make 7th Grade Registration smooth for your child. If you have questions on what immunizations are missing from the school record, please contact the HVS Health Office or your doctor’s office.

For more information, please visit HBCSD.org.

HVPTO established the Middle School Class Fund to help acknowledge our middle school teachers’ hard work.

And what exactly IS the Middle School Class Fund? Well, since middle school classes do not have traditional room parents to take care of staff appreciation week, holiday and end of year gifts for the teachers, HVPTO asks for a once-yearly contribution of $40/per middle school student and we cover those events for you. We simplified the process for everyone to celebrate our awesome teachers.

Go to the HVPTO Store to donate online. Thank you to everyone who already donated during Middle School Registration and online.

For middle school students and parents, Outdoor Education is a highly anticipated time of year. For students, it’s a week away from the comforts of home, often for the first time. For parents, it’s a little nerve-racking (or thrilling, depending on how you feel about it!) to send them off to take care of themselves for a week. But one thing is certain, they always come home, a little dirtier than when they left, having had a fantastic time and ready to share their adventures!

Our Hermosa Beach kids are so fortunate to get a different Outdoor Ed experience each year of middle school. Science really comes to life when it’s experienced first-hand, outside the classroom.  HVPTO is proud to fund a grant to help offset the cost of our kids to attend these amazing adventures. It’s one of the reasons we do what we do and it’s why we ask for help to reach of fundraising goals.  #poweredbyHVPTO

For the 2025-26 school year, the District has shared the following information:

So – your kid is going to Middle School next year.  Or your lovely student lost their PE clothes.  Or your child is all of a sudden adult sized and their PE shirt is now midriff length.  Or you are new to the school and need to score some of those AMAZING blue shorts.  HVPTO fields several questions about PE clothes every year; while we are not in the PE clothes business, we investigated to get you the scoop!

Uniforms will be available for purchase during Middle School Registration.

Otherwise, PE Uniforms can be purchased through HBCSD’s ASBWorks platform. Once orders are processed, the uniforms will be delivered directly to students’ PE Teachers for distribution. For any questions regarding PE Uniforms, please contact the Valley School Office at (424) 333-9970.

How much will they set you back?

The whole set (shirt, shorts, pants, tote bag) costs $57.  Shirts can be purchased individually for $12, shorts are $15, pants are $20, and an extra or new tote bag will run you $10.

(Information as of October 5, 2025)
