Hermosa View School

Hermosa View School has a tradition of academic excellence, of parental commitment and teacher dedication. For nearly a decade, Hermosa View School has achieved an API score over 900 and has met its yearly growth targets. The demographics of Hermosa View School have remained consistent with 92% of the student population white and the only significant subgroup. Through the fundraising commitment of the parents and community, we have been able to continue to provide programs that promote the application of learning to the arts and real life during these difficult and challenging fiscal times.

As a small school, we enjoy a high level of communication and collaboration among the district, school administration, students, teacher, parents, and local citizenry. The different stakeholders in the school meet regularly to discuss and articulate what would enhance our students’ experiences, then work to implement appropriate programs. Hermosa View teachers employ a wide variety of Common Core learning strategies, experiences, and support services. Hermosa View School’s intimate size has created a neighborhood school culture in which student social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development are continually monitored and nurtured. The high level of involvement of our parents and community in every aspect of our educational programs is truly a reflection of the value placed on the tradition of excellence we expect for the children in Hermosa Beach.

The inclusion of the MindUp program at Hermosa View School has provided students with a neuro-scientific understanding of learning to self-regulate behavior and mindfully engage in focused concentration required for academic success. Kindergarten through second grade students sent to the office for a talk with the principal about behavior, will state that their “amygdala” took over their brain and they didn’t make a calm decision … along with a promise to be mindful in the future! During the day, the sound of chimes, softly travel throughout the school as a reminder that mindful learning and practices are taking place at Hermosa View School.
