As your student moves into Middle School, all of sudden you start hearing about Service Points and opportunities to earn them… But what are Service Points? Why do Middle School students need to earn Service Points? And how does this involve HVPTO?

HBCSD and Hermosa Valley School require all middle school students, grades 6-8, are to earn School Service Points. The purpose of the school service program is to provide opportunities within the school to impress upon our students the importance of giving back to others, thinking about others, serving others, and helping to make a greater whole at Hermosa Valley School. The District feels that helping others provides a sense of accomplishment in students and a feeling of belonging in their school and community.

Service points are earned by students who assist a member of the faculty or staff during school hours or while at school, and can also be earned by volunteering at certain HVPTO or HBEF events. For each 15 minutes of service that a student provides, he or she will be awarded 1 service point. For various activities through the school year, students will need to have earned a minimum number of service points to participate.

Service points are tracked through the PBIS app.  Students have access through their school accounts.  Parents can access/view through the PBISR Family app on iPhones/Android – the school will send home instructions on how to access your student’s account.

With the permission of the District, HVPTO offers Middle School students the opportunity to earn School Service Points by volunteering at several of our events through the school year including Middle School Registration, Parking Lot Fundraisers, Back to School Picnic, and the Halloween Carnival. We appreciate all the time that our hardworking middle schoolers put into helping HVPTO run successful, memorable and fun events!

When you volunteer for an HVPTO (or HBEF) event, HVPTO sends a log of all volunteers and their hours to the Valley Office.  The Valley office staff enter those points into the PBIS app.  HVPTO cannot enter points directly into the system, but we can confirm what we have shared with the school.  Teachers and other Valley staff enter points that students earn volunteering for them directly.
