DESCRIPTION:The next SBFC Speaker Series event “Left to Our Own Devices: Parenting Strategies for Healthy Device Management and Optimal Mental Health” with Dr. Don Grant will take place on May 17\, 2022 from 6:30 – 8 pm.\n\nTo register click HERE.\n\nAbout the Presenter: \nDr. Grant\, MA\, MFA\, DAC\, SUDCC IV\, is an internationally award-winning media psychologist\, published researcher\, Doctoral Addictions Counselor\, and educator with specific expertise in technology’s impact on mental health. He is President of the American Psychological Association’s Division 46 (The Society for Media Psychology & Technology)\, and Chair of both APA’s “Device Management & Intelligence” and “Strategic Planning” Committees. He is also Executive Director of Outpatient Services for Newport Healthcare\, which recently launched their new PHP/IOP adolescent treatment program under his leadership in Santa Monica\, California. \nDr. Grant designs\, presents\, and facilitates “Healthy Device Management” and “Good Digital Citizenship” treatment strategy and educational training workshops for clinicians\, educators\, parents\, and school communities. \nLast summer\, Dr. Grant was invited to join the APA Coalition for Psychology in Schools & Education\, which was commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control to create a series of adolescent psychology focused support manuals on behalf of the DASH funded APA Safe and Supportive Schools Primers Project. Don and his team completed the last of these manuals in October\, with the entire series to be distributed by the CDC to schools\, administrators\, and educators nationwide. \nDon’s current research includes investigations of potential effects of social media\, cyberbullying\, and device driven attachment bonds on adolescents\, teens\, young adults\, families\, and our culture/relationships-at-large.

DESCRIPTION:Please join HBCSD for “Drug Addiction – It’s All in Your Brain” to learn about the brain & drug addiction. \nMAY 12\, 2022 from 4:00 TO 5:00 PM ON ZOOM! \nThis program provides scientific information about the disease\, including the many harmful consequences of drug abuse. \nPresenter Victor DeNoble\, Ph.D.\, was hired by the Philip Morris Tobacco Company in the 1980’s to research and study the effects of nicotine on the brain and was later fired because of what his studies revealed. Students are eligible for the 2022-2023 school year to enroll in our full-day TK Program if they are turning five years old on or between September 2\, 2022-February 2\, 2023. TK/K will be offered at our updated Hermosa View School reopening in August 2022. There is also before and after child care with STAR Education at our Hermosa school sites.\n\nAt the TK/K Informational Parent Meetings\, HBCSD will discuss our full-day TK/K curriculum and differences\, eligibility for enrollment\, registration process\, STAR Education (before and after school care)\, interdistrict permits\, our updated/new schools\, volunteer opportunities with the HVPTO & HBEF\, and why we are the Best Little School District in the South Bay.
